How long is the study?

Participation lasts about 2-2.5 years. We may enroll you prior to your baby’s birth, and participation will end when your child turns 2 years old.

Where does the study take place?

No need to schedule extra in-person visits! All study activities will take place at:

  • Your home
  • Your child’s well-child doctor’s visits
  • Video call or by phone

What will I do?

During this time we will ask you to:

  1. Collect an at-home cheek swab test for one or both parents of your baby to test for genetic markers associated with FH. We will offer the option to have venous blood draw at local lab to test for lipoprotein(a), an independent risk factor for heart disease that is passed along in families. This will be done before your baby is born.
  2. Collect an at-home dried blood spot test from your baby during the first week of their life.
  3. Complete blood draws at well-child visits or mobile lab for cholesterol levels when your baby is one month old, six months old, one year old, and two years old.
  4. Participate in video visits approximately two weeks after each test to discuss results.
